Flooring & Stairs

Floors and stairs
done right.

Hardwood install and refinishing, tile, custom stairs, and railings. The foundation of every renovation that lasts.

Where every
room begins.

Flooring and stairs are the surfaces you touch every day. They are also the work that shows the most when it is done badly. Hardwood that creaks. Tile that lippages. Stairs that twist. Railings that wobble. The fixes are expensive, and the original install rarely warranties them.

We treat flooring and stair work as a craft. Subfloor prep first. Acclimation of materials before installation. Proper expansion gaps. Tight transitions between rooms. Stair construction with engineered stringers and properly blocked rises. Railings that anchor into structure, not drywall.

Hardwood, engineered, and vinyl plank flooring. Tile installation including large-format and heated floors. Custom staircases, refinished originals, new railings, and trim work throughout. The surfaces that make every renovation feel finished.

Subfloor to finish.

Quality flooring is built in layers. We address every layer, not just the visible one.

What affects the final number: material selection, square footage, subfloor condition, removal of existing flooring, custom stains, and complexity of stair construction.

For your floors and stairs.

Most flooring problems start before the planks ever come out of the box. Our standards live in the prep work.

01

Subfloor Prep First

Levelled, fastened, dry. Loose nails screwed down. High spots ground flat. Squeaks fixed before the new floor hides them. The floor is only as flat as the subfloor underneath.

02

Material Acclimation

Hardwood sits in the home for a week before installation so it adjusts to indoor humidity. Skipping this step is why floors gap, cup, or buckle in their first year.

03

Engineered Stair Construction

Stair stringers properly blocked. Treads glued and screwed. Risers anchored to structure. The result is a staircase that does not creak in 5 years or in 25.

04

Tight Transitions

Where hardwood meets tile, where one room meets another, where stairs meet flooring. The seams are where flooring projects show their quality. We obsess over them.

Common questions.

The questions homeowners ask when planning new floors or stairs.

Solid hardwood or engineered?
+

Solid hardwood works for above-grade installations and can be refinished multiple times over its lifespan. Engineered hardwood is more dimensionally stable, which makes it the right choice for basements, over concrete, or in homes with significant humidity swings. Both can look identical when finished. The structural difference is what matters.

Site finished or pre-finished hardwood?
+

Site finished means the wood is sanded and stained on-site after installation. The result is a smoother surface with fewer seams and the ability to custom-match stain colours. Pre-finished hardwood arrives stained from the factory with hardened topcoats. Pre-finished is faster and more durable in high-traffic homes. Site finished is more refined.

Can I refinish my existing hardwood?
+

In most cases, yes. Solid hardwood can typically be sanded and refinished 4 to 8 times over its life depending on the original thickness. Engineered hardwood can be refinished 1 to 2 times depending on the wear layer. We assess thickness and condition before recommending sand and stain versus replacement.

How long does a hardwood install take?
+

A whole-home hardwood install typically runs 5 to 10 days for installation, plus 3 to 5 additional days for site finishing if applicable. Pre-finished installs are faster because there is no on-site finishing time. We schedule around your living arrangements and avoid sanding during heat-sensitive parts of the year.

Can I rebuild my staircase without rebuilding the structure?
+

In most cases, yes. We can replace treads, risers, handrails, and pickets while keeping the existing stringers and structure. We assess structural integrity first. If the stringers are sound, we retrofit. If they are compromised, we recommend a full rebuild. Either path leads to a safe, square, quiet staircase.

What about glass railings?
+

Frameless glass railings require properly blocked structure during install. The glass anchors into structural elements, not just into the surface treads. We coordinate the blocking during stair construction so the glass installs cleanly. The result is a modern, open feel with no compromise on safety or rigidity.
